tutoring and teaching

Many people with a website need a bit of extra help. Managing a WordPress.org site, updating the content, ensuring it’s secure and complies with all laws is a massive task.

My own sites for clients all come with a comprehensive set of online tutorials for them to refer to. I also offer ongoing training if you require it as your site develops.

Training on specific areas of site set up or management

Small training sessions – for groups or individuals – can help you to fill in the gaps in your knowledge. This will give you confidence so you can use your WordPress.org website creatively.

Current topics covered include (but aren’t limited to):

  • Writing content for your site
  • Sourcing and using images on your site (cropping, resizing, adding to pages or posts etc)
  • Making sure your plugins are safe and updated correctly to ensure your site stays secure and fully functional
  • Learning how to understand the difference between pages and blog posts (and use them both effectively)
  • Connecting your site with your social media accounts so you can post content across various platforms

For a more comprehensive introduction you could consider enrolling for evening classes (see below) or booking me to deliver a bespoke course for your staff or volunteers.

Evening classes

For people looking for a comprehensive, all-round introduction to WordPress.org I run a 10 week evening class. ‘WordPress for Beginners’ takes place at Hills Road Sixth Form College (search amongst courses for ‘WordPress’ to see if there are any coming up soon). A private site containing tutorials for this course is available for all students to log into even after they have finished with the training course.

Bespoke WordPress.org training

The evening classes I teach at Hills Road are taught across a ten week term but can be delivered over a week or two to a small group if you need to get up and running faster.

Sessions take place more frequently, with homework tasks set between each session. Costs vary depending on numbers of students and other requirements. Do get in touch to find out more.

WordPress.com is the commercially operated ‘cousin’ of WordPress.org and can be a suitable starting point for some small organisations and individuals. My series of blog posts on website planning for small organisations will help you understand your needs as an organisation and decide the right course of action for you.

WordPress.com can be a good stepping stone to learning the more versatile WordPress.org in the longer term. I am happy to meet up and discuss your options – just get in touch – to help you decide on the right course of action.

Get in touch

Considering a new or revamped website can be a daunting step – I’ll be happy to talk you through the options, give you an idea of what is involved and help you take the next steps with support. I look forward to hearing from you, discussing your needs and helping you make the right decisions.
