Kate Rhodes, novelist

Site to promote two book series

Kate Rhodes, author of detective novels, came to me by word of mouth (as most of my clients do). We hit it off right away and started planning out her website. This was partly prompted by her latest set of novels being snapped up for a TV drama production – exciting!

Another WordPress.com site

Improvements in service and flexibility at WordPress.com mean it is my go-to option for clients who need a simple brochure site. In this case, it was the right solution as no extra functionality was required.

Colour choices

We picked a theme with a grey background colour that showed up the vibrantly coloured book covers perfectly. This works well for mysterious and slightly dark detective genre…

The book cover images stand out like jewels on this background:

Images and written content

The book covers provide a great focal point and also work as a ‘call to action’ (marketing speak for ‘getting people to do something’): you can click on the book covers to visit Kate’s Amazon page and purchase copies. She provided a wonderful professional portrait of herself for the home page. We also used more informal pictures of her in the Scilly Isles, doing background research for her latest series.

Kate provided her written content in double quick time – I love working with writers for this reason alone! Some autobiographical background to give people a flavour of her life and motivation for writing. And some ‘blurb’ text to give a tempting overview of each book.

I recommend Kate’s exciting books. Detective stories often give you a strong impression of the place they are set. I feel as though I’ve visited the Scilly Isles after reading a book from Kate’s latest series
